You've reached my website, photo gallery, and blog. I'm a professor, amateur photographer, traveler, guitar player, and generally a geek about most things. I'm originally from Northern California, but went to college and grad school in the midwest and am currently based near Philadelphia. I'm going to try not to talk about work too much here; if you want to see what I do for a living, visit the ".com" version of my site.

Probably the most interesting things to see here are my blog and photography galleries.

Essential questions (and answers):

Electric or acoustic? There's always a revolving door of acoustic guitars around here, but the guitar-du-jour is a beat-to-hell Martin D-18. I've loved instruments by Collings, Santa Cruz, Gibson, Taylor, Guild, Larrivée, Lowden, Weber, Beard Resophonics etc., and I've built my own acoustic guitar.

Canon or Nikon? Nikon (and Fuji).

Beatles or Stones? That's a hard one; growing up it was definitely Beatles, but over the last few years I've been on a Stones kick. Other musical influences include Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Lyle Lovett, The Jayhawks, Emmylou Harris, Alejandro Escovedo, Steve Earle, Richard Thompson, Johnny Cash, and David Cavins.

PC or Mac? Apparently my computing is on a 12-year cycle: Mac from 1984 to 1996 (when I started grad school); PC from 1996-2008. Currently Mac, at least until 2020.

Manual or automatic? One of each...A Jetta wagon diesel with a stick and a VW Eurovan camper with an automatic. Yes, I am wracked with guilt over the fact that Jen and I have three cars between the two of us.

Cats or dogs? Neither. Same goes for fish, reptiles, rodents, and children.
